ok, previously i have been sucessful solving issues such as this by crawling through existing tech forum searches.
but the deeper i get into this one it becomes clear that the 'solutions' i have encountered are as varied as the posts i discover. it seems i need help very specific to my own hardware and software frankenstein.
i have no sound. it began when my 1/8 to rca got caught up in the blinds two days ago and broke off in the MB onboard audio jack.
(as a sidenote i want to discourage suggestions having to do with retreiving the 1/8 bits from the plug and/or utilizing that jack. after multiple attempts-- that audio jack is quite f'ed.)
so assume i have no jack available from the MB onboard.
here is how i was attempting to resolve the issue;
i had an old creative SB audigy card laying about that i am trying to install. (though it is not HD, it would beat the heck out of silence for the next months and i am saving up for a new mb/chipset) it has the jack i need (the front jack on my case, or rather the lead from the mb, has never worked.)
i have spent the better part of two days attempting to determine what combination of drivers/directx/device info/etc would bring audio back into my computing life.
i currently have no sound.
the 'sounds and audio devices' section of control panel says ; 'no audio device'. naturally the 'audio' and 'voice' tabs from that window are also grayed out.
then in device manager;

shows as 'working properly' and 'enabled' , under the properties tab the device is NOT USED for audio,midi,mixer, or line-in 'features of this device'
